I entered a writing contest for the first time. It took me three tries to get the story accepted!

The contest is on the Lush Stories site, with an “Elements” theme- earth, air, fire, water. The first prize is $150

I chose water as my element and made up a story involving a backyard pool, called “As Wet as the Water.”

The first time I submitted my story, it got sent back because I didn’t make the ages clear enough, oops! They are very cautious about that, which is a good thing.

The second time was because it was over the 3000-word contest limit. It was about 100 words over.

I had a hard time cutting out words, but managed to do it without changing the story very much.

As usual, I wove bits of truth and experience through the story.

A lot of people have been trying to guess which parts are true, since the story has a flashback to a high school experience. I will have a Behind the Story link up soon for it.

I don’t think the winners are announced until sometime in May, so it will be going on for a while. And it doesn’t require voting or anything, so I’m guessing a panel of judges decides the winners.

So, who knows how it will go, but I at least got a cool new “Contestant” badge for my profile.
